adium fails to register

I can't get adium to work.

the following comes up
"Jabber was unable to connect due to an invalid Jabber ID or password. This may be because you do not yet have an account on this Jabber server. Would you like to register now?"

I click "yes" then I receive the following

"overland@jabber.org (Jabber) : Error read error"

What have I missed here?

Why can't I just register directly on the jabber.org site?

seems a bit of a runaround

I'm using OS X3.9

thanks for any help

expect support on the client homepage

Any problems with your client will probably best resolved on the client forums.

You are right about the "runaround" issue. There are some plans to offer a wizard service here on jabber.org, but not in the near future (my guess).

I created an account on this website

I created an account on this website and set my password. In the os x iChat client, adium, and psi I keep getting authentication errors.

iChat:
iChat was unable to login to jabber.org because your screen name or password was incorrect.

adium
Error: Incorrect username or password

psi:
Authentication error: Not authorized

Please help

Nevermind

Adium's IM registration screen would shut down too fast for me to register and the other services wouldn't let me register an IM account. If I clicked on adium's "register" button on the lower right hand corner fast enough, it worked.

Pain.

We changed the timeout at

We changed the timeout at the jabber.org server so that if you don't communicate within 5 seconds the server will log you out. We did this to prevent certain denial of service attacks IIRC, but I will check with the other server admins to see if we really need that.

I'm having the EXACT same

I'm having the EXACT same problem, and I'm also using Adium and OSX 10.3.9 I searched the terms "read error" and a few others at Adium and had no luck, so I wrote to Adium's help center. They wrote back with a not-very-helpful letter and so I came here and found this thread.

Did you ever have any luck? I'm feeling pretty discouraged after a number of futile attempts.

Also, maybe I'm missing

Also, maybe I'm missing something obvious, but I can't find a forum at Adium (went to the link posted and looked around). Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm having the same problem

I'm having the same problem and think it's ridiculous that there's not a simple sign-on at jabber.org, especially that you can't link that account with your openid on this site... ... ...

It may seem ridiculous to

It may seem ridiculous to you, but there is code to write in order to make single-sign-on work across Drupal and Jabber. We're working on the problem but there are many conflicting priorities to focus on. Sorry for the delays.

hmmm.. I installed Adium..

hmmm.. I installed Adium.. when I try creating a new account 'koppenhoefer' and hit register new account using jabber.org, I get the flying pinwheel 'registering' that just turns and turns and never does anything. I also unsuccessfully understood via PSI and SPARK. I thought that perhaps (despite the web page info) that my login on jabber.org might work... obviously no such deal. :-(

I guess I just have to come back later.

Hi there, Registration has

Hi there,

Registration has been temporarily disabled. It will probably be back tomorrow. Feel free to choose another server.
